This digital archive is a freely accessible electronic edition of Colonel Spiegel's correspondence during the war and documents relating to his death in 1864.

SCOPE AND CONTENT

Family correspondence and personal papers, including letters written by Col. Spiegel while serving in battle as a Union officer during the Civil War. Also included are documents relating to the death of Col. Spiegel in 1864 and certificates relating to both his military and civilian life. It should be noted that the physical collection contains other family documents and letters (1853-1898) not included in this digitized archive. Transcriptions for the letters and documents were written by Jean P. Soman.
